The University of Jiroft was originally started as a ''Technical Institute of Agriculture'' in 1989, under supervision of Shahid Bahonar University of Kerman. Subsequently, in 1997 it was developed to the ''Faculty of Agriculture'' and later on, it was expanded as ''Faculty Complex of Agriculture and Natural Resources''. Finally, in line with the particular attention of the government to higher education and scientific research around the country, and according to the all-round development of the south of Kerman province as well as prospect of the use of high capacity and potential of the Jiroft city, on 22ndFebruary 2009, the ''Faculty Complex'' was developed to the ''University of Jiroft''. The academic activity of this university was independently began with two faculties of Agriculture and Natural Resources, however currently it has been fundamentally expanded and became a well known university in the south of the country. The university is located 8 km far away from the city center and, occupies nearly 210 hectares of prime land. University of Jiroft offers a verity of Bachelor and Master degrees in a wide spectrum of disciplines. The research laboratories at the university are well equipped and a major program for modernizing laboratories is currently underway.
